Learn how to use Looperoni's features
Getting Started
Looperoni is a browser-based drum machine and beat maker. To get started:
- Create a free account at studio.looperoni.com
- Click on any grid square to place a drum hit
- Press the play button to hear your beat
- Adjust the BPM slider to change tempo (60-200 BPM)
Using the Sequencer
The 16-step sequencer grid allows you to program beats across 5 instrument tracks:
- Kick: Bass drum for foundation and groove
- Snare: Backbeat and accent hits
- Hi-Hat: Rhythmic texture and drive
- Tom: Fills and melodic percussion
- Bass: Melodic bassline with chord progressions
Click any cell in the grid to toggle a hit on or off. The orange highlight shows the current playback position.
Sound Design
Click on any instrument name (KICK, SNARE, etc.) to open the tuning modal:
- Volume: Control the loudness of each instrument
- Decay: Adjust how quickly the sound fades
- Tone: Change the pitch and character
- Special Parameters: Each instrument has unique controls (Punch, Snap, Metal, etc.)
Drag the orange knobs to adjust parameters in real-time. Use the "Test" button to preview your sound.
Musical Key & Bass Chords
The bass track features intelligent chord progressions:
- Select your musical key (C through B) in the header
- Click on bass grid cells to assign chord progressions (I, ii, iii, IV, V, vi, vii°)
- Change keys and watch the bass chords automatically transpose
- Bass chords follow music theory for harmonically pleasing progressions
Saving & Loading Presets
The Loop Library panel lets you manage your beats:
- Factory Presets: Load pre-made beats like "Techno Drive" or "Hip Hop Vibe"
- Save Current: Store your beat to the cloud with a custom name
- Import: Load .rfpreset files from your computer
- Export: Download your preset to share with others
All presets include your pattern, instrument settings, BPM, and bass chord progression.
Recording Audio
Add live recordings to your beats:
- Click "+ ADD AUDIO TRACK" to create a new recording track
- Click the microphone icon to arm the track for recording
- Press play - recording starts automatically on the next loop
- Use the volume knob to adjust track levels
- Recordings automatically sync to your current BPM
Track Controls
Each track has individual controls:
- Mute Button: Orange checkmark to enable/disable tracks
- Volume Knob: Adjust the loudness of each track independently
- Track Name: Click to open tuning modal (for drum tracks)
- Delete: Remove audio tracks you no longer need
Keyboard Shortcuts
- Spacebar: Play/Stop
- Fullscreen Icon: Toggle fullscreen mode for distraction-free production
Browser Requirements
Looperoni works best with modern browsers:
- Chrome/Edge 90+
- Firefox 88+
- Safari 14+
Make sure to allow microphone access if you plan to record audio tracks.
Troubleshooting
No sound?
- Check your device volume and browser permissions
- Make sure tracks aren't muted (orange checkmark should be visible)
- Verify that your browser supports Web Audio API
Can't record audio?
- Grant microphone permissions when prompted
- Check that your microphone is selected in browser settings
- Try refreshing the page
